6th Grade Band
Our 6th grade band is our introductory band at RCS designed to start students on the appropriate instrument and develop a strong base in which to grow and build upon. Fundamentals and musical exposure are the key components in the 6th grade band and students will develop and build these skills using Essential Elements 2000 Method for Band Book 1. Students will participate in three concerts each year, Fall (September), Christmas (December), and the Spring Awards Concert (May). Students will be able to choose any instrument in the concert band. Flute, clarinet, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion.
*Students interested in Saxophone will start on Clarinet and have the opportunity to switch to Saxophone in January.
*Students interested in Oboe and Bassoon may start in 6th grade only if lessons are taken
During the 4th quarter of 5th grade each student's class will visit both band and choir. They will be able to hear what each ensemble sounds like and begin the thought process of choosing which music group they would like to participate in starting in 6th grade. Students who are interested in band or have an interest in seeing what options are available in band need to attend the RCS Instrumental Tryout Night at the end of April. Information regarding time and place will be communicated during the 5th grade visit and email to parents.
